Money Management Issues

Some students struggle with credit cards and managing money since this is their first time to handle their money without the “parental safety net.”

Parental tips: 

  1.  Help your student set up a budget. 

  2.  Encourage your student to find a part-time job on campus to help with their expenses.  Studies show that a part-time job (approximately 20 hours) actually helps with the time management issues that may arise. 

  3. If your student continues to have trouble, encourage them to see the ASU Counseling Center to help with money management.  The Counseling Center has many resources for your student, including credit card issues and budgeting skills.
