Roommate Conflict
Living with anyone in close quarters can be challenging for many students. Some of our students do not understand that sitting down together and sharing expectations and behaviors to each other BEFORE conflicts begin can disarm arguments before they actually happen.
Parental tips:-
Have your student sit down with the roommate as they are moving in the room. Topics such as weekend guests and room cleanliness should be discussed before they become an issue.
-
Help your student understand that adjustments will have to be madeā¦both individuals will have to adjust to the other.
-
If, after speaking with the roommate, issues still arise, have your student sit down with the Resident Assistant. This is a student who is trained to help your student with roommate conflict. They will initiate conversation between the two roommates, and then conduct a roommate contract/agreement to address any issues that may be occurring
